How long is one DefTech Forge?

Each DefTech Forge runs as a 5-day intensive on-site testing and prototyping campaign at a military site. Companies are expected to be fully engaged for all five days to maximise hands-on learning, testing, and iteration.

In the first year, the initiative plans to host 6 events in total, structured in 3 cycles, each featuring 2 simultaneous locations, concluding by March 2027.

Eligible participants include companies, mentors, and local organisers. All stakeholders must be either under EU, Norway, or Ukraine control (companies / local organisers) or citizens of EU, Norway, or Ukraine (mentors). Companies: Showcase, test, and validate TRL 4+ solutions.Mentors: Work with winning companies to guide operational and technical integration. Local Organisers: Host the Forge for 5 days, manage logistics, and ensure operational continuity.

Selection is based on eligibility, operational relevance, technical readiness, and demonstrated team capability. Companies undergo an application screening, qualitative evaluation, and interview rounds. Mentors and organisers are chosen based on expertise and capacity to meet programme requirements.

Absolutely. A core objective is to provide direct interaction with military end-users, enabling real-time operational feedback, validation, and alignment with mission requirements.

Winning teams (3 per event) receive €120,000 each, in addition to access to follow-on funding and Phase 2 opportunities for structured testing and evaluation.

Winning teams enter a 2-month mentoring programme to prepare for the Phase 2 Test & Evaluation campaign managed by EDA. A handover meeting with EDA ensures smooth transition and readiness for formal operational testing.
